Less than a week after people on social media dragged Meek Mill over the many insensitive texts about the late Kobe Bryant, the rapper is back in the spotlight after being called by Kobe’s wife Vanessa Bryant.
Just when it was looking like the heat was about to subside, Vanessa went to her Instagram story to call Meek about his song “Kobe,” which featured Lil Baby and which showed up last week.
In the song, Meek refers to Kobe’s death and says, “And if I ever miss it I’ll go out with my Choppa, it’ll be another Kobe.” The next voice you hear a moment later is Lil Baby’s saying, “I almost want to have a son so I can call him Kobe.” Fans didn’t seem to have a problem with Baby’s line, but they were very vocal about what they felt was disregard for Meek’s contribution to the verse.
Below is an overview of what people said:
Well, Vanessa wasn’t a huge fan either and she made this very clear when she texted Meek Mill about her IG story.
She started by sharing his lyrics and then poked him up and made sure he was tagged too.
“Dear @meekmill, I find this line extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period, ”began Vanessa’s message. “I don’t know any of your music, but I think you can do better. If you’re a fan, what better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and sensitivity.
Meek hasn’t officially approached Vanessa, although fans were confused when Meek tweeted shortly after reading Vanessa’s reading.
Fans called Meek about the timing of the tweet, and several people believed he hadn’t seen Vanessa’s message yet. It’s unclear if he did, but we’ll keep you updated.
