EXCLUSIVE: Hannah Montana co-creator Michael Poryes has partnered with French children’s producer Superprod Group to create an Italy-based tween comedy series called Home Sweet Rome.

Following the adventures of American Lucy Cole, who moves to Rome with her father, the show is being filmed on location in town by Superprod’s newly acquired Italian production company Red Monk Studio.

Doug Schwalbe, former senior vice president of coproduction at DreamWorks and HBO, developed the series with Poryes. Schwalbe acts as executive producer while Poryes is the showrunner. Superprod’s Superights sells internationally.

Poryes, who also co-designed That’s So Raven, said, “I’m excited about the opportunity to create a series with everything Rome is as a backdrop and indeed a character. A 13 year old American girl who needs to move to this iconic city and adjust to new friends, new family, new culture, and a whole new way of life while cherishing old friends through social media gives me the fun opportunity to explore Her unique situation while always basing everything she experiences on the universal emotional truths of a young teenager. “

Recent Superprod productions include the animated feature White Fang, selected on Sundance and purchased by Netflix in a number of territories, and the television series Pat the Dog and Lassie. Superprod produces several series for Netflix, including Spirit Rangers and Ghee Happy, at Superprod Studios in Paris and Angoulême.
